Spring break is here, and so are traveling options. Some feel the urge for warm weather and so decide to escape to a beach, others (like me) try to make the most of cold weather and so escape to the mountains where there is still some pretty good snow left.
We chose Nevada, why? Well, we’ve done the whole Colorado thing and it’s awesome but we find it more of an adult scene rather than a kids scene, and since we where traveling with the entire troop (that is 4yr olds, 7 yr olds etc) we needed something more kid friendly, and Nevada offers a huge variety of beginner skier mountains and lifts for them, as well as entertainment, shows, enormous arcades, a zillion restaurants, shopping centers etc. You can either stay at Reno, rent a car and head up to the mountains, (15 min ride to Mt. Rose for example) or you can stay in Tahoe and visit Heavenly Mountain (2 min drive), or you can drive to Squaw Valley (like an hour drive) or actually stay in Squaw Village (but that turns out a bit boring after skiing cause there’s not much more to do) bottom line, there are a zillion mountains you can choose from.
Oh and yes, Vegas is a 50 min flight away. (Which we obviously visited afterwards for some mean shopping and good eats, like STK at the Cosmopolitan Hotel, Eiffer Tower Restaurant at the Paris Hotel and Andrea’s at The Encore Hotel (among others) and if you’re into yummy brunch food, be sure to visit Serendipity 3 at The Ceasars Palace Hotel, HashHouse A go go at the new Linq Hotel and Bouchon at The Venetian. Shows? Cirque du soleil shows are always a good idea! Although there are pretty good shows off the strip, like Rock of Ages at the Rio Hotel.
Yeah ok I know, Let’s talk fashion. Honestly, when it comes to cold weather outfits, I usually go for all black everything, you know me, black is always classy. But something got into me this spring ski trip, I chose very bold colors, and by bold I mean the entire rainbow on one single look. The trick? I guess you have to tone down the rest of your clothing pieces when you already have one intense colored statement piece, like the ones I’ll show you here.
Bottom line, have fun with your looks, buy a cute coat if you must, but above all, stay warm, there are a ton of under layers which barely show and work amazingly in order to keep you warm.
Hats, beanies, boots, tights, infinity scarves, gloves and capes are always welcome on ski trips!
Hope y’all had a wonderful spring break!
Stay safe
Andy.
